Never miss an important call again by learning how to ring your desk phone and softphone simultaneously. This guide walks you through two reliable methods to ensure you're always connected, whether you're at your desk or working remotely.
How Simultaneous Ringing Works
When configured correctly, incoming calls can "fork" to multiple devices, guaranteeing you'll catch every call. There are two primary configuration strategies:
- Multiple Device Registrations: The simplest and most reliable method
- Find-Me / Follow-Me Simultaneous Ring: Ideal for accounts with separate destinations
Configure Feature In the Manager Portal
In the Manager Portal, go to Domain (or Manage Organization) > User > Answering Rules > Add Rule/Edit Rule > Sim Ring
- Add the desired number of extensions or offnet numbers in the boxes below Sim Ring. You can have it ring just one additional extension or multiple extensions (including the original extension).
- Choose the desired amount of delay, which occurs before ringing that extension, from the drop-down by clicking to the right of the small clock icon and choosing a number between 0 and 60 from the drop-down menu.
Example:
Concept
Simultaneous Ringing is a call handling technique where multiple devices ring at the same time, improving the chances of a quick pick up. The Simultaneous Ring feature allows for a delay, in seconds, before adding the next device to be rung. The delay can be specified separately for each device, and the number of devices and layers is realistically unlimited; most applications are supported.
Definitions
Sim Ring delay is the delay in seconds before ringing the specified extension (device) and is measured from the call origination, not from the previously rung extension (device).
Rules
- All Sim Ring features ring Devices, not Users.
- The Ring Delay for each extension (device) is counted from the call origination, not the previously rung extension (device).
- The Ring For attribute must be higher than the total of the Sim Ring delays, plus however long you would like the last Sim Ring extension to ring.
For Example:
Sim Ring Ext. 100:
Ring x100,
After 15 seconds, ring x101,
After 15 seconds, ring x104,
After 25 seconds, ring x105.
The Ring For attribute would have to be set to at least 35 seconds, to accommodate all the Sim Rings, plus give the last Sim Ring extension time to ring.
Troubleshooting Quick Reference
| Symptom | Likely Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Softphone not ringing | App not registered or push disabled | Verify registration, enable push notifications |
- Always verify your SIP registration and device settings
