How can I set up SMS?

Prerequisites

SMS is an add on service that must be added to the appropriate portal.  Please contact your account Team to add SMS to your account.

 

Setting up SMS for your Direct Inward Dialling (DID) number allows you to receive and manage text messages efficiently across different communication platforms. This guide will help you understand how to enable SMS and configure notifications.

SMS numbers require an add on service please contact your account team to add SMS. 

SMS Viewing Options

When SMS is enabled on a DID number, you have multiple ways to view received messages:

  • Once enabled, for Hosted PBX users, SMS numbers are added to Inventory >SMS Numbers in the portal and can be assigned as an Available Number, Assigned to a User, or assigned to a Call Queue. 
  • For Hosted PBX, Logged-In Agents: Instant message pop-ups appear in real-time.
  • For Hosted PBX, When No Agent is Logged In: Messages are automatically emailed to registered users.
  • Once enabled, for UC Hospitality users, SMS numbers are added to Inventory >SMS Numbers in the portal and can be assigned as an Available Number, Assigned to a User, or assigned to a Call Queue
  • Microsoft Teams Users: SMS conversations appear in a dedicated channel within the SMS app.

Adding a Cell Phone for SMS Notifications

You can assign SMS notifications to specific users or queues. The notification method depends on your service configuration:

  • Messages can be routed to web or mobile apps
  • Email notifications are sent if you're not actively logged in

Important: Notification setup varies by service type, including:

  • Hosted PBX
  • UC Advanced Softphone
  • UC Hospitality
  • Microsoft Teams Phones Connector
