This document will show you which Microsoft Licenses are supported for Microsoft Teams Phone Connector.  

Requirements:

• Each Microsoft User and the Global Administrator must have a Microsoft User License and a Microsoft Phone System License.
• One extra Microsoft User and Microsoft Phone System License will be temporarily required during the initial setup. The licenses may be removed after setup.

Getting Started

Below are two lists of Microsoft User licenses. The first list has the Microsoft 365 SKUs that require a phone system addon license. The second list has the Microsoft 365 SKUs that already include the add-on. Review each list to determine whether the Microsoft Phone System add-on will be needed for each user.
NOTE: This does not include the Microsoft Teams Phone connector license that may be required by your voice provider.

Eligible Microsoft Licenses that require the Phone System Addon

The below licenses are eligible for the Microsoft Phone System add-on.

Note: If using BUSINESS_VOICE_MED2 then you will need to remove the calling plan.

Microsoft User Licenses

Phone System Add-ons

Microsoft Business Voice licenses have been retired by Microsoft as of the end of June 2022. Using the Teams Phone license is the recommended replacement

Eligible Microsoft Licenses that include the Phone System Addon

The below licenses are include the add-on for Phone System and do not need any additional purchase from Microsoft.

Minimum License Requirements

You NEED a minimum of 2.

• One must be assigned to the Global Administrator
• One must be available (unassigned). This will be assigned to a TMC created management user which is required for setup. The licensing can be unassigned 2 hours after the Direct Routing setup, but the management user must remain.

Additional Questions

Microsoft is continuously renaming and adding/retiring licenses. If you want to use a combination that is not on the lists above please let us know for further guidance.

Note:

• Microsoft can take up to 24 hours to propagate changes in Office and Teams.
  • Can take a while to build a Direct Route.
  • Can take a while for a Teams User to see their dial pad.
  • Can take a while to assign Users licenses.
  • Can take a while for licenses you purchase to show as active.
